Kimball Area High School takes Veterans Day seriously each year and 2024 was no different. Students pooled their money together to support Becky's Troop Care Packages, a non-profit in St. Cloud that supports deployed troops from Central Minnesota with care packages at Christmas. Students in Kimball were given the challenge to raise a minimum of $50 in their advisory class to fully fund a care package. We are proud to announce that $1,788.91 was raised in donations!
Additionally, the advisory classes who raised $50 were entered into a drawing for donuts provided by Ms. Ochs and delivered by SGT Carter Ochs and SPC Anita Tep, Minnesota Nat'l Guard members. These patriotic colored donuts were won by Ms. Schaunaman's advisory of sixth grade students.
Veterans Day activities are on a three-year cycle at KAHS with a rotating schedule of a large-group patriotic celebration (year 1), a small-group discussion with a service member speaking to each grade level (year 2), and an opportunity for students to give back to a Veterans organization (year 3).
Lastly, each morning KAHS students start their day by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Two 6th grade students lead the student body over the PA system while Gr 6-12 students are instructed to "remove your hats and face the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance." On Veterans Day 2024, the morning pledge was led by Cynthia Mealy and Grace Zabinski with assistance from High School Secretaries Carly Serbus and Patty Markwardt.
