Kimball Softball is excited to host its annual Youth Softball Clinics for girls in grades 3-8 on March 1 at the Kimball Area High School. The Cubs have hired Hannah Heacox to help with pitching instruction. Heacox was a 4-year starting pitcher for Gustavus Adolphus College. Kimball Elementary School kicked off their annual 1 School, 1 Book program yesterday in celebration of "I Love to Read" month. This year's book, "A Boy Called Bat" tells the story of Bixby Alexander Tam, nicknamed "Bat," a young boy on the autism spectrum who is presented with a unique opportunity when his veterinarian mom brings home a baby skunk to foster, and he must convince her to let him keep it as a pet, navigating his own sensitivities and challenges while trying to prove he can be responsible for the animal. Every family received a copy of the book to read at home along with various activities to do throughout the month of February.

Congratulations to Kimball’s senior point guard Owen Mortenson who scored his 1,000th career point in a big 86-71 victory over Milaca on Feb. 3. Mortenson tabbed his 1,000th career tally on a free throw late in the second half in front of a supportive Cubs crowd. Bryant Knaus inked a career-high 33 points in the Cubs victory to help the varsity squad improve to 11-5 overall (8-1 CMC). The JV team had a big win over the Wolves, while the C-squad lost a heartbreaker by 1 point to Milaca. Way to go Cubs! #KimballHoops #KimballProud

It was a tale of two halves as the Kimball boy's basketball squad found themselves trailing Royalton by 15 points at halftime, 23-38. Led by senior post Bryant Knaus with a game-high 25 points, the Cubs chipped away at the Royals lead and evened the score at 44 with under 8 minutes left in the game. Kimball regained the lead following an old fashioned 3-point play by senior guard Owen Mortenson, giving the Cubs the 50-49 advantage with just over 5 minutes left in regulation. The Cubs never looked back after erasing the halftime deficit, holding on for a thrilling 67-52 CMC victory. Kimball’s JV team cruised to a 70-51 win while the C-squad was edged by the Royals, 37-46. Kimball Wrestling had a successful Parent's Night and Senior Night on Jan. 30 at the high school. Youth grapplers led off the evening with matches against Holdingford. Junior varsity boy's wrestlers and varsity girl's wrestlers followed before the varsity boy's matches against the state-ranked Huskers. Kimball's Activities Director, Clay Anderson, recognized Elaina Fink and Hunter Gebhardt before the boy's basketball game on Jan. 28 for being named Kimball’s Triple 'A' candidates. The Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award, commonly known as the Triple 'A' Award, honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0+ grade point average and who participate in MSHSL-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
